Who am I?
Hi! I’m Caitlin. I’m 21 years old and a second year creative writing student.
I’m a massive music lover, and just all-round fangirl. If you’re interested in music, travel, and concerts, you might want to keep reading!
I’m excited to share my thoughts on my favourite things, as well as my unique perspective on doing it all with chronic illnesses.
Why I started writtenbycaitlin
I started this as a way for me to keep up with my writing practice and basically yap about all of the fun things I had planned this past summer. However, it is slowly growing into a platform where I’ve been able to share my experiences and connect with people who have had gone through similar things, or share similar interests.
I’m proud that this blog, and my social media are becoming a place where I can pass on what I have learnt since becoming chronically ill, stand up for my community, and create content that resonates with people who may not have seen their struggles frequently presented in the media.
I was diagnosed with PoTS in 2021, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis in 2022, aswell as endometriosis and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome more recently. I’m also an ambulatory wheelchair user. It was really difficult learning to adapt my life to these conditions, but I’ve come to learn a lot about managing them. Much of my learning came from fellow members of the online chronic illness community, and now I want to add to it with my own experiences.
When I reached a stage in my illness journey where I could start to travel again and go to concerts, I had no idea what to expect. I hope that I can change that for somebody else.
Disability advocacy is extremely important for me as it completely changed my life, and there is such little awareness for these conditions, so it will be a big part of my content!
But, for those who don’t relate, there will be plenty of general fangirl and fun content too, alongside some learning opportunities 🙂
